People who write or aspire to write are invited to attend a FREE 3 hour writers’ workshop with South Australian author Jennifer Mills in Streaky Bay on Sunday 19 May and Elliston on Monday 20 May 2019.
While undertaking a writing residency in Port Lincoln and Whyalla Ms Mills will extend her visit to include the communities of Streaky Bay and Elliston where she will write and connect with local writers and readers.
Established in 1985, Writers SA is a not for profit organisation that aims to foster, develop and promote writers and writing. The Eyre Peninsula residency is part of Writers SA’s Writers and Readers in Residence Project, which sees South Australian writers undertake an artistic residency in regional communities to activate reading as well as writing in towns.
The rare opportunity is a collaboration that is co-funded by Writers SA and the District Councils of Streaky Bay and Elliston and; is supported by the Elliston Community Visitor Information.
Do you have an idea for a novel, but don’t know where to begin? Started to write, and stalled because you can’t see how to proceed?
This 3 hour workshop with one of Australia’s finest authors will help you learn the practical skills you need in the early stages of a book such as: approaching that daunting first draft, developing voice and character, understanding structure and planning, and making your writing practice sustainable.
Haven't got to that stage yet?
This workshop is great for people who may just want to improve or unlock their creative or other writing skills—come along to upskill!
Malcolm Hancock, Mayor, District Council of Elliston says “We know there are people out there in the community who are writing or aspiring to write. This opportunity not only supports them to attend a FREE workshop but the first 7 people who register will receive a one year FREE membership to Writers SA which is valued up to $75. This will provide a sustained professional development opportunity for community members and support them to develop their writing.”
Jessica Davis, Community and Economic Development Officer, District Council of Streaky Bay says, “Council is thrilled to be collaborating again with Writer’s SA. We were buoyed by the amount of people in the region who were interested in or quite developed in writing when we held the last Writers SA workshop opportunity in December 2017. It is great that we could work with Writers SA and the District Council of Elliston to deliver this FREE opportunity.”
The Writer’s SA workshops in Streaky Bay and Elliston are co-funded by Writers SA and the District Councils of Streaky Bay and Elliston and; is supported by the Elliston Community Visitor Information.
